Software Resources updated

  • Grade/Age level: 1st
  • Subject Area(s): math
  • Platform: Mac and Windows
  • Purpose: The game helps students understand the value of coins as they throw the coin on a slide into a pot. It is a fun way for them to play with money and gives them plenty of practice of finding the correct amount.

  • Software Title: Toonuniversity ( Geography of the US)
  • Grade/Age level: 4th grade
  • Subject Area(s): Geography
  • Platform: Both Mac and Windows.
  • Purpose: This website quizzes the students on their knowledge of the US, the game can be played with up to 3 students. The students are given a state and they have to find it on the map of the states. This would be perfect to use right after the students practice their states or maybe a state and capital vocab test.

  • Software Title: Virtual Media Center ( Around the world in 80 Seconds)
  • Grade/Age level: K-1
  • Subject Area(s): Math
  • Platform: Both Math and Windows
  • Purpose: The students get a chance to act as pilots and use their math skills to fly around the world. The game gives the student the opportunity to pick subtraction, addition, multiplication, or division and the level either easy or hard. This is by far my favorite game from the ones i was looking at and i really think that a class struggling in math would really enjoy the game because it is colorful and has a racing aspect to it.

I agree with your assessment of Around the World in 80 Seconds--very fun game with good pacing, plenty of feedback to the student, and it appears to have very low bandwidth requirements which is good news for most schools. I also liked Discovering Coin Values as well. Nice reviews.
