Voice theard

I had a lot of fun doing this project, however, i hate my voice! Also i am starting to get sick so it made my voice sounded even worse. It was really easy to upload pictures on the program and deleting and editing the final piece was really simple too. this would be such a good group tool, the kids could all comment on the same or different images. I would love to use this in my classroom someday.

Field work

I am currently in 4 ed classes and I am required to complete at least 30 hours of field work in a elementary school. I am completing my hours at Nordale elementary 3 days a week. I have so much fun in the class and working with the students. Today for my ed 422 class I got the chance to teach 4 1st graders who struggle with reading. They were so cute and when I told them that they could earn a prize if they were on there best behavior and stayed on task they immediately sat up straight and finished their work!
This is my 3rd semester at Nordale and I really love the school, all the teachers are so welcoming and I always feel very comfortable when I am there! I hope when I start my internship yeah I will be at Nordale!

story book

I had a lot of fun working with Panraven and creating my own story with the pictures from my vacation. It is a great tool to use with pictures that are very important. The only problem I had with the program is that it wouldn't let me upload my pictures form my computer, I had to switch to a different computer to get it to work but it was defiantly worth it!
If i was to use this in a classroom I would make sure that all the picture were uploaded before I let the students use it, in order to speed up the process and keep everyone working. This would be a great tool to use for Christmas presents or for assignments! It lets the students be creative and very productive.

Panraven fun!

Comic life

I had so much fun with Comic life, I made 6 or 7 comics and showed anyone who would humor me. this is such a awesome program for kids and adults and i cant wait to utilize this program in my classroom. No only will I use it for newsletters but my kids will start to use it for class projects. It gives students the opportunity to be creative and to work on something they are very proud of.

Cocktail party!

Last Friday my roommates at SAC and I threw a cocktail party for all our friends! We asked everyone to dress nice and bring a mixer. It was a awesome way to dress up and visit with our friends. My whole aprt. is really busy with school and work so this was a great opportunity for us to play classy dress up!

My Summer Job.

I am a 22 year old college student who has been so blessed with wonderful friends and family that I thank god everyday for what I have been given. I have had the same job since I was 16, granted I moved around a lot and had other job opportunities but my boss has always let me come back and continue working. That has made my life easy and has taught me a really cool trade. I work on grounds crew for the university where I plant flowers, mow grass, build retaining walls, and in the winter shovel snow. When I started writing this blog I had no clue that I was going to write about my experiences on grounds crew but I'm glad I am. I want people to understand that working on campus is such a rewarding experience because the campus knows that school come first! Of course our jobs are important but as a student worker student comes first. I have had the opportunity to work every summer for 6 years and still got the chance to go on two exchanges and two internships in Washington DC.
This blog I guess is to thank my boss Darrin "Bear" Edison for giving me a job as a young girl and letting me come back when I am ready! The things I learned on Grounds will stay with me for the rest of my life and have really made me a independent female!

Software Resources updated

  • Grade/Age level: 1st
  • Subject Area(s): math
  • Platform: Mac and Windows
  • Purpose: The game helps students understand the value of coins as they throw the coin on a slide into a pot. It is a fun way for them to play with money and gives them plenty of practice of finding the correct amount.

  • Software Title: Toonuniversity ( Geography of the US)
  • Grade/Age level: 4th grade
  • Subject Area(s): Geography
  • Platform: Both Mac and Windows.
  • Purpose: This website quizzes the students on their knowledge of the US, the game can be played with up to 3 students. The students are given a state and they have to find it on the map of the states. This would be perfect to use right after the students practice their states or maybe a state and capital vocab test.

  • Software Title: Virtual Media Center ( Around the world in 80 Seconds)
  • Grade/Age level: K-1
  • Subject Area(s): Math
  • Platform: Both Math and Windows
  • Purpose: The students get a chance to act as pilots and use their math skills to fly around the world. The game gives the student the opportunity to pick subtraction, addition, multiplication, or division and the level either easy or hard. This is by far my favorite game from the ones i was looking at and i really think that a class struggling in math would really enjoy the game because it is colorful and has a racing aspect to it.

Software Resources

I found a really fun web site , from Toon university that has a bunch of fun games that my student could use . My first game is a rally fun game dealing with coins this activity was meant for 1st graders with a concentration in math and it is Mac or PC purpose. the game helps students understand the value of coins as they throw the coins on a slide in to the pot. Using the same website i found a awesome geography game for 4th grades, the game quizzes the students on how well they know the US and also lets them play with up to two other classmates. This was only a free trial and if i paid the fee and became a member the students would have a lot more games to play. The game was Mac or PC friendly. The last website from Virtual media center had a wide variety of games for kids to play, the game i chose was a math game called Around the world in 80 seconds, the students get a chance to act as pilots and use their math skills to fly around the world. The game is for students k-1 and gives the student the opportunity to pick subtraction, addition, multiplication, or division and the level either easy or hard. This is by far my favorite game from the ones i was looking at and i really think that a class struggling in math would really enjoy the game becuause it is colorful and has a racing aspect to it. This game is Mac or PC friendly

One to one

One to One

While watching the movie in class I saw how the effective one to one program is and I hope I get the opportunity to work in a class room where students have a lot of access to computers. It would give me the opportunity to be creative with my lesson plans and learn along with my students.

Being only a few years out of high school I am honestly a bit jealous that high school students in my district are getting so much access to their own computers. I would have loved to have my own laptop through out school. The students are getting a head stat on a computer based world and it will really benefit them in the future especially when they attend college. Their research skills will increase and they will also gain a great grasp on technology. Some fears I have about the one to one program is the fact that the students will constantly be on the computer and they could look at unsafe sites. There could also be a lack of tech support in the schools and a student could fall behind with a broken computer.

Personal introduction

Hi, my name is Tyler Miller. I just turned 22 and i have lived in Fairbanks my whole life. I went to high school at Lathrop High in Fairbanks and i loved it there!! i swam for 4 years through high school and it was the best sporting activity i could of participated in! I sill continue to swim and play water polo through out college. I have an older brother who currently works in Washington DC for Senator Lisa Murkowski. Both my parents work at the University at the physical plant. I am very lucky that they work on campus because it has enabled me to go to school for free and also go on exchanges for free. my Sophomore year in college i went to school in Pensacola,Florida and it was a wonderful experience and i met tons of amazing people, i also just got back from an exchange in Copenhagen, Denmark. Living in a foreign country was very challenging for me because of the language barrier but it was a very worthwhile experience and i am so glad I did it.
